drinking my coffee and watching the flow of
cars full of parents and children headed for
the school located down the street. It was
the first day of school. “New beginnings,” I
thought. “We all need new beginnings.” My
children are grown but that doesn’t mean I
can’t use the opportunity of others’ new
beginnings as my own. I needed a new
beginning, a new opportunity to stretch and
grow with my Christian sisters.
beginnings are all around us. Some fall
naturally into our lives and others we
create with our own determination.
Graduation, college, a new job; a move, a
birthday, a marriage, a new baby, a new
year, a new school year, retirement, or
death of a loved one are all opportunities
for new beginnings. Almost any occasion and
certainly any day of the year is opportunity
for a new beginning. God gives us new
beginnings to remind us to seek him in all
beginnings. We all need them to enable us to
step back and look at our life for ways we
can improve it. Improvement may mean changes
in routine, diet, life style or service to
others. It most certainly should include our
relationship with God. I bowed my head and
thanked God for the blessing of new
